Yoga for runners

Exciting times! I’ve read so much about how Yoga for runners can improve your running experience, that I’ve decided to take the plunge an I’ve got my first “hot yoga” class today. So I hope Studio 42 in sunny Reading is ready for me

I’ve been watching some YouTube videos with the excellent Esther Ekhart yoga but it’s not the same as having a real live teacher to show you exactly the right moves and the little bit I have done on my own has certainly helped me with the flexibility (my default is “stiff as a board”). It makes sense I suppose as there is a lot of comminality between the two disciplines – posture, breathing, focus etc. etc. The first class that I’ve signed up for is “hot yoga” and apparently the temperature in the studio is 35-40c and it lasts for an hour so I think it’s going to be quite a sticky experience.

So what are my biggest concerns – will I be able to maintain the poses, will I be flexible enough, how much water will I need? Well actually it’s none of these! My first concern is that I’ve bought the wrong shorts (the “ballet dancer” specials) so will they split and the second big concern is will the other pupils have ever seen an ultra runner’s feet or will they think I haven’t washed for a month!

Anyway it’s going to be a giggle – I’ll post something later on this week and let you know how I get on.
